First US Citizen Born in Russia was Daughter of US President (My Cousin)
John Quincy Adams lived in Russia with his family for several years
My cousin, Louisa Catherine Adams, was the first American citizen born in Russia.
Through my dear Grandma Winnie (Adams) Ream, the American patriot Samuel Adams is my direct ancestor, and through him, I am second cousins with John Adams, the second President of the United States of America.
His son, John Quincy Adams, became the sixth US President. Prior to becoming the leader of the nation, he was a distinguished international diplomat, and he lived in Russia with his family from 1809 to 1814. His daughter, Louisa Catherine Adams, was born in Russia in 1811. She died in 1812, at the age of 13 months. She was the the first US citizen to be born in Russia, and also the first US citizen to be buried in Russia.
Her gravestone is in St. Petersburg:
Hi Father Gleason,
We became founding members hoping to get directly in touch with you regarding a move to Russia. We are a Russian Orthodox, English-speaking family, looking to get out of the rat race of city life, and experience the heart and soul of the Russian land, and live our Russian faith in freedom. Hope we can connect some time!
