A large family is the backbone of Russia, said President Vladimir Putin at a meeting with participants and winners of all-Russian family competitions, according to a TASS news report on January 23.
Speaking about the decree on the status of large families, signed the day before, the president noted that people with whom he met had repeatedly asked for this. “It really has practical implications. I hope that this will all play out properly so that large families have the same status throughout the country,” Putin said.
According to the Russian leader, large families are very important, because it is in them that the basic qualities of a person are brought up, on which both the family and the country rest. Among such qualities, Putin named respect for elders, love and care for younger ones, hard work, and everything connected with this.
“As a matter of fact, our entire domestic economic policy is in one way or another connected with family support,” he emphasized, recalling that the authorities tried to put together a complete package of family support measures from the moment the expectant mother became pregnant until the child’s 18th birthday.
Putin also noted that much remains to be done. According to him, the state will be able to consider that it has done the maximum when there is no need for special programs, and the natural functioning of the economic organism and social sphere will be such that “no matter how many children there are in the family, everything would be comfortable,” and support measures would be activated automatically.
