Russia: 3 Year Maternity Leave for Mom, Dad, or Grandparents
Not just two weeks of maternity leave. Three full years.
By Russian law, maternity leave can be taken by any of the family members. Whether father, mother, grandmother, or grandfather, one member of the family can take a three-year leave from work.
For the first year and a half, the person on childcare leave receives 40% of their average salary. For the remainder of the three-year-leave, the employer is obligated to keep the job available for the person on leave.
During the three-year childcare leave, if another child is born, the clock restarts for another three years. The second time around, things proceed the same as the first. Once again, 40% of the average salary is paid for the initial year and a half.
I know of one family (not the family in the picture above) who especially benefitted from this arrangement. Every three years, the mom gave birth to a new child. She had six children, for a total of 18 years maternity leave. She was paid a portion of her salary for 9 of those years.
This is one of the many reasons why Russia is a great place to raise a family.
It shows that unlike in the West, there is a genuine desire to help families. No wonder neo malthusians hate Russia so much
Long live Russia - the only bastion of freedom in the world !!!
