Russian Lawmakers to Grant Maternity Leave at First Trimester of Pregnancy
Helping mothers provide the best possible care for their little ones
Currently, the Russian State Duma is working on a program to grant women the right to maternity leave from the first trimester of pregnancy. This was stated on January 16 by the first deputy chairman of the House Committee for Family Protection, Tatiana Butskaya.
According to current legislation, the expectant mother has the right to go on maternity leave at the 30th week, and in the case of twins or more children - at the 28th week.
“Now we need to support pregnant women, we are thinking about the first trimester of pregnancy. It is obvious that we now need to develop separate programs that are aimed specifically at supporting pregnant women,” says Butskaya. According to her, for many women the first trimester is more difficult than the third. In addition, she continued, work is underway to increase support for young families.
