President Putin Says Large Families Should Become the Norm in Russia
The Russian President emphasized that the family is “not just the basis of the state, it is a spiritual phenomenon, the source of morality.”
Having many children should become the way of life for all peoples in Russia, President Vladimir Putin said, speaking via video link at a meeting of the World Russian People's Council.
“Many of our peoples, thank God, maintain the tradition of a strong multi-generational family, where four, five or more children are raised. Let us remember that in Russian families, many of our grandmothers and great-grandmothers had seven, eight, or even more children. Let’s preserve and revive these wonderful traditions,” Putin said.
In his opinion, “overcoming the most difficult demographic challenges” is impossible with the help of money alone — social payments, allowances, benefits, and individual programs. Putin admitted that “figures of budget demographic expenditures” are extremely significant, but added that “a person’s life guidelines are much more important.”
The President emphasized that the family is “not just the basis of the state, it is a spiritual phenomenon, the source of morality.” In his opinion, all areas of public administration should be aimed at supporting the family, motherhood, and childhood. “Saving and increasing the people of Russia is our task for the coming decade,” Putin said.
Having recently signed a decree declaring 2024 in Russia as “The Year of the Family”, Putin said, “Such a decision really rests on the position of the absolute majority of our society.” The decree states that the Year of the Family in Russia is being declared “in order to popularize state policy in the field of protecting the family and preserving traditional family values.”
