I have often read the phrase “history is written by the victors”. My own journey started in late 2015 when Russia (Putin) came to the aid of Syria (Assad) which was threatened with annihilation by the proxy terrorist group ‘ISIS’ and affiliated groups. I have been a Russophile since.
The more I looked into Russian history the more I appreciated the suffering of Russia – or more particularly, of the Russian Orthodox people. Hence why we meet here at Russian Faith [Edit - forgot which site I was on - here at Fr. Joe’s Newsletter - Moving to Russia.]
I won’t try and detail my reading journey (I will get there eventually on my ‘Book Mentions’ page). Suffice to say that my journey took in the last thousand years and more, the Rus, Byzantium, Vladimir the Great, the Romanovs, WWI, the Bolshevik Coup and inevitably, WWII. Of all historical topics, the latter is the most lied about.
In my search I also read the entire collection of speeches by Adolf Hitler, 1922 – 1945. (My EMPHASIS added in the following two passages.)
